Visa Interview was scheduled and done today. Just to remind myself of what I had to do for (hopefully) 10 years later:
1. Prepared documentation. A whole week of agitation and running around!
2. Filled up the DS-160 online form halfway…. Left it for later.
3. Went to Standard Chartered to pay the visa fees @ RM512. Reverse parked into the parking space smoothly, achievement unlocked!
4. Completed and submitted DS-160 online form.
5. Made appointment, chose the earliest time available @ 7:40am.
6. Stressed over the oncoming interview until the day approached.
7. Parked at the open space car park, it is beside Micasa Hotel. @ RM10 per entry. Annoyed the guard with my incessant whines of not wanting to reverse park on my own. (In the end I did, ok.)
8. Walked towards the embassy. There was a line already with some people waiting on the benches as they had later appointment times. The ones with earliest appointment times got to get in line first for security checks.
9. Security check: Show appointment letter and photo ID at the counter, exchange photo ID for visitor pass. Wait in line. Go in, security scan, leave behind all electronic devices, get a number tag.
10. Walk out, up the steps, and to the right is the ticket machine. Get your ticket number, and wait in the waiting room on the right. Toilet, toilet!
11. Number called, walk out of the waiting room to the visa / consular office. Submit appointment letter, confirmation page, one photo. I was in my blank moment and submitted them one by one even though I had all of these clipped together with a paper clip. The counter lady asked (as she did with everyone else) whether I had been to the US before. She did not ask for the visa fee receipt, and so I did not pass to her. She returned the ticket number stapled to a slip of paper and asked to wait for the biometric scan.
12. At this stage, the numbers began getting mixed up. People were called at different times for biometric scan, and it did not follow number order. My number was skipped and took a while before I got to the scan. From 16 to 30 before getting back to me *worryworryworry*
13. On the contrary, I was one of the first few to be called for the actual interview. Blank face moment again. With a good morning, just answered the questions the interviewer gave. Did not ask to show any of the documents I had painstakingly prepared and worried over the whole week.
14. “OK, no problem. Your visa is approved and you have chosen to have it sent to your ** address, it will be processed and arrive within 2 to 3 working days.” Me: That’s it? I can go now? *blank* “Yes, you don’t have to wait. You’re done ”
15. Celebration! And a little deflated at all the hype I read about but everything done at the embassy is actually really amiable and just simple procedures to go through.

The interview:
1. So what is your purpose of going to the US?
2. Where exactly?
3. Who are you going with?
4. Do they have a Visa?
5. Have you visited any countries outside of Malaysia before? Which?
6. Do you have family in the US?
7. Do you work?
8. Could you describe your work?
9. He asked about work a couple of times.
